Vintage 6V6 are available in three different shapes:

• A large ST shape (coke bottle) 6V6G. This is the earliest type of 6V6
• A smaller straight glass GT package encompassing the GT, GT/G, GTA, and GTY suffixes
• A metal envelope which usually labelled as 6V6 with no suffix

The difference between the types the 6V6 appears in are:

• 6V6 is the metal cased 6V6.
• 6V6G are the early coke botteled (ST) shaped versions of the 6V6.
• 6V6GT are the straight shaped glass version of the 6V6. The older versions mostly have a grey paint at the inside of the glass, color varies from light grey to very black. The paint gives extra RF shielding to the tube.
• 6V6GTA comes in many versions, grey and clear glass, top and bottom mounted getter. The 6V6GTA is the newer version of the 6V6.
• The 6V6GTY is the brown, low loss micanol, base version of the 6V6. This tube is found mostly in military boxes. The suffix JAN is sometimes found, the JAN version is a more ruggidised version of the 6V6.
• The 12V6 is exactly the same as the 6V6, including the suffixes. The only difference is the heater, it is 12.6V, instead of 6.3V.
• 5992 is a very strongly made 6V6. They have a light colored brown base. This tubes sounds very good. All 5992 show a blue light at the glass, this is because of secondary emission op molecules at the glass, not because the tube is gassy, it is very ok.
• CV509 is the English militairy version of the 6V6G. Mostly is has black pates and dark glass, alsways they are of great quality and sound.
• 7408 is the industrial version of the 6V6.
• 5S2D is very rare Swedish military versions of the 6V6GT. They are very highly reputated for their good sound.
• The 1619 or VT164 is a directly heated military version of the 6V6. It has a 2.5V/2A heater rating. Pinout is the same, with exception of pin 8, for the 1619 only the g3 is connected to that, cathode is (of course) at the two heater pins (2,7).
• 6pi6C, Russian exact equivalent of the 6V6G. Directly interchangable.
